Our History
How it began
The North Hudson Fire Association
In 1999 when the five municipalities consisting of Guttenberg, North Bergen, Weehawken, West New York and Union City unilaterally decided to merge their individual fire departments into a single department under the newly created North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue, they disrupted long term collective bargaining groups and firefighter international and fraternal organizations.
In direct response to this, the firefighter organizations of West New York/Guttenberg IAFF Local 620, Weehawken FMBA Local 26, Union City FMBA Local 12 and North Bergen IAFF Local 1387 formed a singular organization to protect its members from any forms of injustice; to secure just compensation for their services and equitable settlement of their grievances; to promote the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions and strive constantly for their improvement; to improve the efficiency of its members; and to cultivate friendship and fellowship among its members. Hence, the North Hudson Firefighters Association was established.
The Mission
Our mission as a Labor Organization has always been twofold: 1) Provide for and protect its members and 2) Serve the North Hudson community as one of its pillars with their time and fundraising abilities. As a result, the community is provided with the expected expertise and promptness only professional firefighters can fulfill and in turn our community supports the organization’s goals.
In our 20-year history, we have been able to effectively lobby and attain certifications, equipment and develop relationships with state and national organizations to better serve the North Hudson Fire district in our capacity as Firefighters. Since 1999, we now have over hundreds of members and our capabilities and membership continue to grow each year. We also have found ways to further serve this community, cooperating with another local organization, The North Hudson Fire Officers Association.
We, the North Hudson Fire Association, consider it a privilege to protect, serve and contribute to everyone in our jurisdiction and beyond. Your confidence in our abilities and continued support of the programs we support is what drives us to be better members of this community and better firefighters. We cannot and would not survive without all of North Hudson’s backing. And we will always have your backs.
